One of the biggest myths about wing clipping is that getting a wing clipping done is like a haircut or a nail trim for your bird and that it is an entirely harmless procedure. Flight feathers can grow back, but sometimes they can take multiple years or may not grow back at all, hindering many of your bird's daily activities. Birds rely on their ability to fly to escape if startled, exercise, and as a mode of transportation, which in perspective is more significant than a "haircut or nail trim." A bird's body is designed specifically for flight, from lightweight bones to the structure of their organs. This procedure means taking away their ability to fly gives them a disability they were not born with. Even if you believe this will stop flight, it will not, as a spooked bird will still fly, and a slight breeze could swoop up your bird. Lack of flight means several things for your bird, such as weak muscles, depression, poor physical health, unsafe conditions, and emotional/behavioral issues. With clipped wings, your bird has an easy chance of taking a crash-landing and gaining head traumas or severe injury, and your bird has a high probability of becoming obese and dying from poor health. While the physical effects are hefty, the mental effects are just as harmful as your bird will become aggressive, afraid, and lose trust in you. Clipped birds have no way to escape being held, which can stress them beyond belief and ruin your bond. If you clip and force your bird to bond with you, expect a bird who does not enjoy your company, trust you, and would much rather be without you.
